it's that time of year again, when jewelry stores, chocolate companies, and flower shops try to convince consumers that their product is all that your one true love wants to receive. i hate how commercialized this holiday is, because instead of excitement most people feel the pressure to spend money. not to mention how all those ads make the singles feel.
so last year, the boogerfish and i agreed to make our valentine's day with the boys personal, enjoyable, and most importantly: without falling into the commercialized traps. dinner and a movie is the classical date ritual, so that's what we went with. however, we did not make reservations at the crowded restaurants, nor did we stand in the long lines at the movie theater.
since we did not take our boys out to the restaurant, we decided to bring the restaurant to them.

we had dinner by candelight and dessert (w/ penis-shaped cupcakes) made by pavel.

after dinner, we chose a movie from our collection of dvd's and watched in our room, while laying in our beds.
then came the gifts:

for two weeks, my room smelled like my favorite flowers: white tulips and lilies

so that was my valentine's 2005.
i wonder what this one is going to be like...
